Professional Development Imperative for Nurses

Professional development or higher education for Nurses is imperative as it not only leads to better patient outcomes but also prepares them for future roles. Nursing degrees and continuous upskilling equip nurses with the tools they need to deliver quality patient care and add higher value to the healthcare system they work for, contributing to key metrics like reduced mortality rates. The testimony to this fact is provided through a study by Linda Aiken from Penn Nursing, which directly correlates higher nursing education to low mortality rates and superior patient outcomes.

The projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that healthcare professions will grow at a rate of 13% over the period from 2021 – 2031 leading to the creation of close to 2 million jobs over the next decade. Additionally, the data highlights the nation would need 203,000 new registered nurses every year through 2026 to fill the gap created by a retiring population. This only means one thing, healthcare organizations will have to focus their efforts not only on recruitment but also on retention and professional development of their current workforce.

CEO’S CORNER

Adrienne L. Way, Edcor Owner, President, and CEO

The National Nurses Month celebration starts on May 1 to celebrate the 4.4 million Registered Nurses in America who are at the front and center of patient care. Every year there’s a unique theme to celebrate this month. The 2023 theme is ‘You Make a Difference’. At Edcor, we take it a notch higher by dedicating our Newsletter theme for April and May to Nurses. And why not?! We believe that Healthcare workers should ideally be celebrated all year long, especially Nurses. Nurses are highly trained professionals who are often the first point of contact for anyone seeking medical attention. These unsung heroes work tirelessly for the well-being of society. So, I couldn’t be more in agreement with the theme.

Nurse’s month this year is divided into four focus areas – self-care, recognition, professional development, and community engagement. Edcor and our School Network partners are proud to be contributing directly towards the professional development and community engagement parts of it through our unique program offerings and a multitude of webinars for the Nursing community.

You’re invited to register for an upcoming webinar on May 02, at 2.30 pm ET organized by DeVry Works where Sara Van Wagoner, VP of Corporate Growth at Edcor will be providing insights on the topic Tuition Benefits: How Inclusive Is Your Policy?

Let’s future together!
